Eric Hall
Eric Hall’s career in HVAC began in the United States Army in 1990 as a utility equipment repair technician. When he left military service, he continued his education through Palomar College in San Marcos, California, and then went on to the University of California, San Diego, where he studied HVAC direct digital control (DDC) design and control. Hall began as an installer in 1993 and worked his way up to maintenance supervisor, project manager, supervisor, commissioning coordinator and owner before 2013, when he joined the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation (SMART) workers Local 206 in San Diego. He continued his upward trend, working in high-level positions at union contractors in the San Diego area before he was hired by the National Energy Management Institute (NEMI), a not-for-profit organization jointly managed by SMART and the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA), in summer 2025. As field representative for the western region, Hall works with public, private and government organizations as well as companies nationwide to make buildings safer and healthier while improving energy efficiency. Hall holds numerous certifications in testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB), Title 24 mechanical acceptance test technician and employer, commissioning supervisor and fire and smoke damper supervisor. He is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) — from which he earned the LEED AP accreditation — and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), where he earned the Building Commissioning Professional, or BCxP, certification.
