Kimon Onuma

President at Onuma, Inc.

Kimon Onuma, FAIA is an architect and technology strategist with over 37 years of experience at the intersection of the built environment, data, and interoperability. As founder of ONUMA, Inc., he pioneered cloud-based BIM, GIS, and Digital Twin solutions—delivering SaaS in 2000 when most still shipped CDs. Since the early 1990s, he has used the web to connect teams and data across projects—long before the AEC industry was ready. ONUMA, Inc. has remained fully remote and cloud-first for over two decades, focusing on real-world outcomes over hype. In 2025, ZAiMAP launched as the next evolution of this ecosystem—a unified interface connecting decades of work to enable actionable facility intelligence across time, location, and context. From operations and resilience to AI insights, ZAiMAP bridges BIM, GIS, sensors, and people. A Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, Kimon leads a team fluent in both architecture and computer science, supporting large owner organizations with open, scalable, and sustainable solutions. Clients include the U.S. State Department, DOD, VA, DHS, GSA, USCG, USACE, U.S. Navy, and major education systems. An advocate for open standards, he contributes to NIBS, buildingSMART International, OGC, and the Linux Foundation’s Tiger Team. Creator of BIMStorm, he continues to drive owner-led digital transformation through open collaboration and system-level thinking.
